Robert Burns' famous words in translation, "The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry", have become part of our vernacular. Why does it seem to be that no matter how well you have prepared, somethings things just happen and go wrong despite your "best laid plans"? Do we have an optimistic foil for this quote?
